The Accountable, Reasonable, Responsible and Flexible (ARRF) framework is a simple, child-centred tool designed to help parents identify, document and understand patterns of harmful or abusive co-parenting behaviour.

Reflects a parent's willingness to take responsibility for their actions, acknowledge mistakes, and repair relationships after conflict.

Accountability helps build trust, emotional security, and resilience, while a lack of it can leave children feeling confused, blamed, or emotionally unsafe.

Focuses on whether a parent's expectations, decisions, and discipline are fair, proportionate, and appropriate for the child's age and development.

It helps identify when guidance supports healthy development or when responses become excessive, punitive, or emotionally harmful.

Measures a parent's commitment to consistently meeting their child's physical, emotional, educational, and developmental needs.

Responsible parenting provides stability, safety, and reliability, demonstrating that the child's wellbeing remains the priority.

Assesses a parent's ability to respond appropriately to their child's changing needs while maintaining healthy boundaries.

Flexibility reflects emotional attunement, problem-solving, and adaptability, whereas rigidity or unpredictability can contribute to insecurity, anxiety, and emotional distress.
